“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you”
I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. John 14:27
The bible teaches us that God is peace and his son Jesus came into the world as the Prince of Peace, Isaiah 9:6, therefore, Peace is the king of all virtue and of all the divine virtues. Love, Joy, understanding, charity, faith and many other virtues, the divine virtue of Peace stands alone and is sufficient unto itself.
Love without Peace and Joy without Peace is a living hell but yet Peace itself can exist without any of the other virtues and remains fulfilling, calming and satisfying. No other virtue can stand without Peace and remain fulfilling and gratifying.
According to Genesis 1:1
“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth and the earth was without form, and void and darkness was upon the face of the deep, and the spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. The spirit of God my friends is Peace.
When you looked up in the sky and see the sun, moon and all the stars, they are held in their place and in their orbit by the invisible hand of peace.
Furthermore, ”There is no peace saith the Lord for the wicked.“ Isaiah 48:22
Thus saith the Lord, “I created the fruit of the lip, which is Peace to him that is far off and to him that is near, saith the Lord; and I will heal him. But the wicked are like the troubled sea when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt again, there is no peace for the wicked, Isaiah 7:19-21 on the other hand the lord will give strength unto his people, the Lord will bless his people with peace. Psalm 29:11
One whose consciousness is dominated by the ego (I, me and my) cannot know lasting peace. An ego dominated consciousness can only know the peace that the world giveth, which is a peace that is only temporary, but a peace that is given by a consciousness without the daily presence of the ego can enjoy the peace of God forever. Likewise when we focus our consciousness in the moment, the here and now we are also showered with the blessing of God’s peace. This is the peace that Jesus was talking about when he says, “Peace I leave with you, my Peace I give unto you not as the world giveth , give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled or afraid.” John 14:27
This presentation is in memory of my late father Manuel Whitfield Sr who loved this passage of scripture very much, every time he read it it brought him so much joy.
